We ended up going here on one of the OTHER times that Frog's Landing was closed, but this was a very pleasant surprise. It was really, really good! The pizza was excellent, and we also split a mud pie for dessert. If it weren't so far away from Gainesville, I think we would have gone back again.

Overall we had a pretty good meal. From past reviews, we did know in advance that it could take a while for our meal, everything is made to order. I'm happy to wait for scratch cooking. We were expecting it to take a lot longer than it did take, so that was a nice surprise. We really enjoyed the overall charm of the eclectic decor and bits of history hanging on the walls. Our favorite thing was the trivia pursuit cards on the table in the old tin. We had a lot of fun passing the time for dinner reading and quizzing each other. Best parts of the meal, the caesar salad and desserts. For dessert we tried two (key lime pie and mixed berry pie)and enjoyed them both. It was a nice surprise that the berry pie was heated.

Delicious food; the shrimp and scallop burrito was fresh and tasty. You can tell real ingredients are used in the food, not prepared food off a delivery truck. Quirky little space and eager, but unpolished, wait staff. Third time here and it has always delivered great tasting food.

My brother and I had dinner here on Saturday evening around 6:30 p.m. There were only two other tables of customers, and everyone was seated outside on the porch. First, I want to note that Yelp has the location wrong for this place. It is actually located on Hwy. 24 only 1/2 mile from downtown so it is an easy walk from almost anywhere. We started out with two appetizer orders of clams and they were great! Had to ask for some extra melted butter but that was no big deal. We each ordered the seafood and pasta dinner with the marinara sauce and it was wonderful! Plenty of clams, oysters, shrimp, scallops, and calamari. The linguini definitely tasted freshly homemade. I've dined at Tony's, the Island Hotel, and the Island House several times each ( and they're all good), but my meal at the Blue Desert was the best I've had in Cedar Key.

We found this place to actually somewhat unremarkable. The service was severely slow. Not just slow. Very very slow. And if you have dietary restrictions, this may not be the place for you. I'm gluten free and vegetarian (yeah, I know.. difficult to accommodate), and could only order the nachos with veggies & black beans. The cost was $13, and the serving size so ridiculously small that I left hungry. Very disappointing.

The overall rating on Blue Desert of 3.5 stars is about right.....I didn't want to give it a 3, and there is no option for 3.5, so I went with 4. The food is surprisingly good, but the extremely slow service keeps it from being higher. There was only one server on duty, as is the case most nights. If you don't mind a two hour experience, and love great island food, this is the place! We arrived there knowing the service would be slow, so we had no expectations. We were with a group of 9, so the conversation along with a few brews filled the time nicely until our orders came.

This place was recommended by Pat at the Low-Key Motel where we were staying. It was within walking distance, although a bit far. We were told to expect the food to take a while since the chef/owner cooks everything to order on a small 4 burner stove... So we knew not to expect fast. I ordered a calzone with mushroom and spinach. Not fine dining, I know, but hear me out. My bf ordered the ciappino to start, and it was full of local clams and clearly freshly made. He said it was awesome. Not being a seafood eater I'll take his word for it. He then had a seafood pasta dish, again filled with local clams and other seafood. He was in heaven. Back to my calzone, though. It was clearly homemade as well and delicious on it's own, but both of our dishes were sent to a whole other level by the fresh marinara. I've never had such amazing marinara in all my life. I could eat that marinara for every meal... I had to save some of my calzone so it wouldn't be weird asking for a to go cup for the marinara! So, so good. I wish I lived closer, I would eat here once a week!

They do take credit cards, by the way. Cute, quaint little place. Pretty much like the rest of Cedar Key. We visited off season so service was good and a normal wait for food cooked to order. I had a fettuccine alfredo with scallops and shrimp. The seafood was great, the sauce not particularly inspired. My dining companion had the grilled tuna. He liked, done just as he asked, fresh from somewhere, obviously.
